A Billion + Change Marketing and Communications Intern Summer 2012 (2 positions)

A Billion + Change:  A Billion + Change is a national campaign to mobilize billions of dollars of pro bono and skills-based service by 2013. Together representatives from corporate America, foundations, government and the nonprofit sector are pledging to bring the best of business skills and talents to serve the needs of non profits and communities at home and around the world. We’ll be looking to engage 500+ companies and secure pledges of more than a billion dollars in pro bono service commitments over the next year. 

Our Interns will be team members as we implement a campaign strategy that includes working with corporate partners, associations, non-profits and civic groups to identify and engage companies to take the pledge.  An intern can expect a campaign environment that includes supporting special events, managing invitation lists, following up on outreach to set up informational meetings and calls with our leadership, implement marketing strategies with small and entrepreneurial businesses. The opportunity is exceptional to work with the country’s leading companies on a dynamic social change campaign that is the future of corporate volunteering.  The staff at Points of Light and Billion + Change are seasoned professionals networked into the highest levels of government, business, nonprofit and foundation communities.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail oriented, have strong verbal and written communications skills, have some experience in an advertising or political campaign environment and will be high energy and motivated.

Learning Objectives:

  • Academic learning applying the knowledge learned in the classroom to the work environment;
  • Career development developing knowledge of a position in order to pursue a particular interest or career option;
  • Skill development gaining an understanding of the technical skills and knowledge required in the workplace;
  • Personal development gaining decision-making and critical thinking skills as well as increased confidence and self-esteem.

Learning Experiences:

  • Understanding the strategy, goals and objectives of a national B2B social change campaign
  • Managing databases and spreadsheets
  • Managing and updating website content using Drupal content management
  • Implementing social marketing projects and reporting on performance using Google Analytics surveys and other tools
  • Supporting special event planning, development and implementation including invitations, recruiting, speaker solicitation and event day staffing
  • Drafting blog posts, tweets and other short communications pieces

Preferred Experience:

  • Political or advertising and marketing campaign experience
  • 2 years of college or completed associates degree
  • Passion for the written and spoken word
  • Knowledge of Powerpoint, Word and Excel software
  • Experience with Drupal or Salesforce is a plus
  • Proactive, high energy and action oriented

$500 monthly stipend

Duration: ASAP - end date negotiable
